The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) is a public foundation, established in 1983, that funds basic biomedical research. Its PhD fellowships support outstanding junior scientists worldwide for 2 to 3.5 years to pursue an ambitious PhD project in an internationally leading laboratory. The peer-review selection process is highly competitive, with fewer than 10% of applicants receiving a fellowship.
Who can apply
- Junior scientists of any nationality pursuing an ambitious PhD project in basic biomedical research.
- Project must be based in an internationally leading laboratory.
- Physicians and veterinary surgeons pursuing a research doctorate are also eligible.
