The Freshwater@UW SROP at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is designed to immerse undergraduate students in research related to freshwater ecosystems, water resources management, and environmental sustainability. The program offers participants the opportunity to work on interdisciplinary research projects that address critical issues in freshwater science, such as water quality, aquatic biodiversity, ecosystem health, and the impacts of climate change on water resources.
Participants in the Freshwater@UW SROP work closely with faculty mentors and graduate students on research projects that may involve fieldwork, laboratory experiments, data analysis, and the development of new tools and techniques for studying freshwater systems. The program emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach, integrating knowledge from biology, ecology, hydrology, environmental science, and engineering to understand and solve complex environmental challenges.
In addition to research activities, the program includes professional development workshops, seminars, and networking opportunities. These activities are designed to help students develop research skills, learn about graduate school opportunities, and explore careers in environmental science, freshwater ecology, and related fields.
Who can apply
- Have a strong interest in water research.
- Be an undergraduate student through at least the fall 2024 semester.
- Maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4-point scale.
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Commit full-time to the research program, appx 32-40 hours per week.
