The CITP Siegel Public Interest Technology Summer Fellowship is designed for students interested in the intersection of technology and public policy, offering them the opportunity to contribute to research or work at public interest organizations focused on issues such as data privacy, cybersecurity, digital rights, algorithmic bias, and equitable technology access. Participants work with faculty from Princeton’s CITP or partner organizations, conducting research or working on practical technology projects that have a societal impact.
The program encourages participants to explore how technology can be used ethically to solve public problems, with a focus on areas such as privacy, online security, algorithmic fairness, and technology policy. Fellows may be placed at nonprofits, government agencies, or think tanks working on public interest technology, or they may be involved in research projects that seek to inform technology-related policy decisions.
In addition to hands-on work, the fellowship includes seminars and workshops that cover topics such as ethical technology use, cybersecurity law, privacy concerns, and the development of public interest technologies. Participants will have opportunities to network with professionals in the public interest tech field, as well as present their work during a concluding symposium.
Who can apply
- Undergraduate or Graduate Status: Applicants must be currently enrolled as undergraduate or graduate students at an accredited institution.
- Interest in Public Interest Technology: Applicants should have a strong interest in the ethical, legal, and policy implications of technology and its application to social good.
- Academic Achievement: A competitive GPA is required, particularly in relevant coursework such as public policy, computer science, law, or ethics.
- Application Materials: Applicants are typically required to submit a resume or CV, a personal statement outlining their research or work interests in public interest technology, unofficial transcripts, and letters of recommendation from faculty members.
