The Amgen Scholars Program at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is a prestigious 10-week summer research initiative designed for undergraduate students committed to pursuing careers in science or engineering. Participants engage in hands-on research projects under the mentorship of UCLA's distinguished faculty, focusing on areas such as biomedical science, chemistry, bioengineering, and chemical engineering.
This intensive program offers undergraduates the opportunity to conduct independent research in cutting-edge laboratories at UCLA. Participants are paired with faculty mentors based on their research interests and work full-time within their mentor’s laboratory. The program includes weekly luncheons with faculty speakers, workshops on graduate school applications, personal statement writing, research presentations, and mentorship by UCLA faculty. Additionally, scholars attend a Biotechnology Symposium sponsored by the Amgen Corporation held in Los Angeles.
Who can apply
- Must be available to participate in all 10 weeks of the program.
- U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents.
- Undergraduates enrolled in four-year colleges and universities in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and other U.S. territories.
- Sophomores (with four quarters or three semesters of college experience), juniors, and non-graduating seniors (who are returning in the fall to continue their undergraduate experience).
- Cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above.
- Interested in pursuing a Ph.D. or joint M.D./Ph.D.
