The Tufts Summer Scholars Program is an intensive research program designed to provide undergraduate students at Tufts University with the opportunity to engage in original research under the mentorship of Tufts faculty. The program is open to students from all academic disciplines and encourages the pursuit of research that contributes to the body of knowledge in a given field. Whether in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, or engineering, students are invited to develop and explore their research questions in depth.
Who can apply
- Enrollment: Applicants must be Tufts undergraduates currently in their second or third year of study (rising juniors or seniors), from any of the Schools.
- Academic Achievement: A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
- Faculty Mentor: Each applicant must have one Tufts faculty mentor (from any School) who agrees to supervise the project; each faculty mentor may sponsor only one student applicant.
- Research Proposal: Applicants must submit a 750-word project proposal they author themselves, along with a short-answer questionnaire, CV/resume, transcript(s), a jargon-free abstract, and a letter of collaboration co-authored with the faculty mentor.
- Recommendations: Two letters of recommendation are required, sent directly to the program; neither may come from the faculty mentor or someone in their lab, and at least one must come from a Tufts faculty member.
- Commitment: Participants must commit to full-time research for at least ten weeks; simultaneous full-time employment is not permitted (up to 5-10 hours/week of outside work allowed with Program Manager approval), and concurrent summer classes or internships are not allowed.
