The Summer Research Trainee Program (SRTP) at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is an eight-week program designed to inspire students underrepresented in medicine (UiM) to pursue careers in academic medicine and biomedical research. Participants are paired with MGH faculty preceptors to engage in cutting-edge research projects tailored to their interests. SRTP offers UiM students the opportunity to conduct novel research in various biomedical science and health policy areas. The program includes weekly faculty-led didactics, career development sessions, and exposure to leadership in academic medicine. Participants develop scientific writing and presentation skills, culminating in a final research presentation.
Who can apply
- Eligible applicants include undergraduate seniors, rising first-year medical students, first-year medical students, graduate students, or post-baccalaureate students.
- Applicants must belong to groups underrepresented in medicine, such as Latino/Hispanic, African American/Black, American Indian, Native Hawaiian, and Alaskan Natives.
- Applicants must be attending a college, graduate school, or medical school in the U.S.
- Participants must commit to full-time participation for the entire program duration and are expected to work solely at MGH during this period.
