The Injury Science Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program at the Center for Injury Research and Prevention (CIRP) at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is a 10-week paid summer research internship. Sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the program offers underrepresented undergraduate students mentorship and hands-on research experience in fields such as engineering, behavioral science, education, population science, and statistics. Participants engage in foundational, hands-on research experiences related to pediatric injury science, including the prevention of childhood injury and secondary prevention of traumatic stress following pediatric injury. The program includes formal training on presenting research, ethics, technical writing, workshops, meetings, field trips, and seminars. Students work on focused research projects under the mentorship of CIRP's multidisciplinary team.
Who can apply
- Academic Standing: Undergraduate students who have completed at least one year of college by June 2, 2025, and anticipate graduation after August 8, 2025.
- GPA Requirement: Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Citizenship: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
- Interest: A demonstrated interest in pursuing an advanced degree in their field of study (excluding pre-med).
- Encouraged Applicants: Minorities, women, people with disabilities, veterans, and students from colleges and universities where STEM research opportunities are limited, including two-year colleges.
