The Undergraduate Cancer Research Training Program (UCRTP) at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science is an intensive 8-to-12-week summer research program for 10-12 underrepresented undergraduate students interested in pursuing careers in biomedical sciences, with a focus on cancer health disparities research. Run under the CDU/UCLA Cancer Center Partnership and directed by Dr. Jay Vadgama, trainees are matched with a faculty mentor at CDU or UCLA, conduct a hypothesis-driven research project, and participate in a weekly CME-accredited Cancer Journal Club. The program aims to prepare students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, for advanced studies and careers in cancer research.
Who can apply
- Low income or underrepresented minority.
- Undergraduate freshman, sophomore, or junior.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Completion of college-level general biology and/or introductory chemistry.
