The King-Morgridge Scholars Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is a prestigious scholarship program designed to support outstanding students from developing countries who demonstrate exceptional academic achievements, leadership qualities, and a commitment to positive social change. The program aims to empower these students to become leaders in their home countries by providing them with the opportunity to pursue a high-quality education at UW-Madison.
Established through the generosity of alumni John and Tashia Morgridge and in honor of Chancellor Emeritus David Ward, the King-Morgridge Scholars Program covers the full cost of attendance, including tuition, room and board, health insurance, and other essential expenses. The scholarship is renewable for four years, provided the recipient maintains good academic standing and makes satisfactory progress toward their degree.
The program is highly competitive and seeks to identify students who have a strong academic record, significant leadership potential, and a demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of others in their home countries. Scholars are expected to use their education and experiences at UW-Madison to address pressing challenges in their communities and contribute to the development of their home countries.
Who can apply
- Citizenship: Applicants must be citizens of a developing country, as defined by the World Bank.
- Undergraduate Status: Applicants must be incoming freshmen who have been admitted to UW-Madison.
- Academic Achievement: A strong academic record is required, typically demonstrated through high school grades, standardized test scores (if available), and other academic achievements.
- Leadership and Community Involvement: Applicants must demonstrate significant leadership potential and a commitment to making a positive impact in their home communities.
- Financial Need: The scholarship is need-based, so applicants must demonstrate financial need as part of the selection process.
