University of Melbourne Vacation Research Experience Scheme

The Vacation Research Scholarship provides undergraduate Science and Biomedical Science students at the University of Melbourne with hands-on research experience. Participants undertake a 4-6 week full-time research project within laboratories of the Department of Anatomy and Physiology, focusing on disciplines such as Anatomy, Cell and Developmental Biology, or Neuroscience. Students work closely with a supervisor on the design, execution, and analysis of experiments, gaining practical skills without earning academic credit. A final report is required at the end of the scholarship period, and recipients receive a $2,000 lump sum payment midway through their tenure. Up to four scholarships are awarded annually to foster interest in research careers.

This program emphasizes prior agreement with a supervisor and is designed for students seeking real-world laboratory exposure. It supports academic merit and project alignment with departmental strengths, helping participants build a foundation for future graduate studies or research roles. The scholarship is open to both domestic and international students currently enrolled or recently graduated in the same calendar year.
