The Johns Hopkins Amgen Scholars Program is a prestigious 10-week summer research program focused on science and biotechnology. Each year, approximately 10 undergraduate students are selected to participate. Hosted by universities worldwide, the program offers students opportunities to engage in hands-on research projects, professional development workshops, and community-building activities. Participants are housed on campus and become part of a dynamic research community.
Key activities include:
- Independent research projects under the guidance of Hopkins faculty.
- Attendance at the annual Amgen Scholars U.S. Symposium.
- Professional workshops and a “Scientific Bootcamp” with the Amgen Director.
This program is particularly encouraged for first-generation college students, those with financial needs, and students with limited research opportunities at their home institutions.
Who can apply
- Be available in person for the program duration May 31–Aug 8, 2026.
- Previous research experience is helpful but not required.
- Must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents.
- Enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S., Puerto Rico, or other U.S. territories.
- Be sophomores, juniors, or non-graduating seniors who are returning to undergraduate studies in the fall.
- Hold a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above.
- Exhibit an interest in pursuing a PhD.
