The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Gilliam Fellows Program supports outstanding PhD students in the life sciences and their faculty thesis advisors. The program is designed to advance cutting-edge scientific research while fostering inclusive and supportive research training environments.
Who can apply
- Be enrolled in a biomedical, biological, or life sciences PhD program at an accredited U.S. institution.
- Be in their second or third year of PhD study at the time of application.
- Have at least two full years of doctoral study remaining when the fellowship begins.
- Apply jointly with their thesis advisor.
- Conduct research in eligible biomedical or life science disciplines.
- Demonstrate commitment to fostering positive and inclusive scientific training environments.
- Remain in good academic standing throughout the fellowship period.
