The Fermilab Summer Internships in Science and Technology (SIST) program offers undergraduate sophomores and juniors majoring in physics, engineering (mechanical, electrical, computer), materials science, mathematics, and computer science the opportunity to conduct hands-on research alongside Fermilab scientists and engineers at the nation's leading high-energy physics laboratory. Established in 1971, and administered in partnership with the Louis Stokes Midwest Regional Center of Excellence (LSMRCE) to support underrepresented minority students in STEM, the program provides a 12-week immersive summer research experience contributing to particle physics and related fields. Each year offers 3 spots for LSMRCE Partner Schools and 3 spots for Midwest LSAMP Alliances.
Who can apply
- Undergraduate sophomore or junior at time of application
- Enrolled in a 4-year U.S. college or university
- 3.0 GPA or above on 4.0 scale
- U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the United States
- Majors: physics, engineering, materials science, mathematics, computer science
- Targeted at underrepresented minorities in STEM
